Unhinged

Award-winning composer Jason Hill has written the original score for Unhinged, the immersive psychological-horror game launching on Netflix June 30. Developed by Night School Studio — the team behind the acclaimed Oxenfree — Unhinged turns the player's own phone into the controller, pulling them into the center of a thriller-turned-nightmare. The game stars Zoë Kravitz as Ava, Sadie Sink as Claire and Troy Baker as Ben. When a storm cuts the power to Ava's apartment building, a masked intruder turns an ordinary night into a fight to survive — and the player guides her through it in real time, using their phone as a flashlight, a lifeline and a ringing connection to the world outside. For Hill, the assignment was a natural extension of a career spent scoring tension. Best known for his work on Netflix's Mindhunter and David Fincher's Gone Girl, Hill brings the same restraint and dread to Unhinged — a score built to breathe with the player rather than simply underline the action. In an interactive horror experience where the story bends to the player's choices, the music had to do the same: tighten when they hesitate, recede when they move, and never let them feel safe for long. The result is a score that lives inside the gameplay itself. Because Unhinged has no fixed runtime — players can move through it in roughly 30 to 60 minutes across its Story and Standard modes — the music is designed to hold tension across an experience that is never the same twice.
