They Like Me, They Love Me

Information

Song recorded for the Netflix series The Confession Killer

My first single released under my own name has just been released. I am playing all the instruments and singing all the vocals, with the exception mentioned below and a very special thanks to all involved! I may have played most of the instruments but I had a lot of help in various other ways along the way.

My friend, director Robert Kenner, asked me if I would write a song as a theme for his new Netflix series The Confession Killer, out Dec. 6. I was scoring the series as well but this was to write a song (with singing and such). So I sat down with my guitar, something I don’t pick up as much these days to write and wrote it from the point of view of Henry, the main focus of the series. After doing so much film scoring over the last several years this was the first song that I wrote to sing in a very long time and it came in a matter of minutes and then I just played one instrument after another and it quickly took shape. It was a blast to do and I hope that you like it!

“Experimental LA pop rock from Jason Hill, “They Like Me, They Love Me” is a dreamy and delicately disoriented tune. Lyrically ponderous, an obsessive narrative yarn is delivered concerning personal presentation and the series stories that ultimately construct the self. The tale is told over some faded percussive gears and accented with a richly detailed accompaniment that allows the 4:45 runtime to feel positively tight. There’s a lot of pretty shimmer coinciding with the dreary divulging, everything broken up in an intriguing elaboration.”
